These posts capture our days as they unfold while travelling long term as a family. They’re written in real time, without polish or hindsight, and reflect the small moments, routines, and rhythms of life on the move.
Longer reflections and feature stories live separately on our Stories page.
Day 197 - Couscous, Goodbyes and a Last-Minute Visa Scare
Our final full day in Sidi Kaouki was supposed to be about packing, saying goodbye and learning how to cook traditional Moroccan couscous. Instead, it also included a heart-stopping discovery that we needed UK travel authorisations for our flight the next morning. Thankfully, what could have become a travel disaster turned into one final story from Morocco before we packed our bags and moved on.
Day 196 - The Countdown to a New Chapter
With Morocco nearing its end, we spent the day making plans for the next stage of our journey. Between booking flights, packing bags, and squeezing in one more bodyboarding session, it felt like we were standing between two chapters—one closing and another about to begin.
Day 195 - Booking the Next Adventure
A day of planning, researching and booking the next stage of our journey. Between schoolwork, flights, accommodation searches and a stubborn stomach bug, we managed to lock in more of our upcoming travels while the kids found their own adventures in the windy streets of Sidi Kaouki.
Day 194 - Between Here and What Comes Next
Some days on the road are filled with adventure, while others are spent trying to make sense of what’s next. Day 194 became a day of research, difficult decisions, and family downtime as we worked through the challenge of planning the next chapter of our journey.
Day 193 - Planning the Next Adventure and Catching Moroccan Waves
After a slow morning of travel planning and researching our next destination, we escaped to the beach for an afternoon of bodyboarding. With clean waves, plenty of laughs, and another beautiful sunset in Sidi Kaouki, it was a reminder that some of the best moments happen when you step away from the laptop and into the ocean.
Day 192 - When Travel Doesn’t Go to Plan
What started as a simple trip to the local markets turned into one of the most emotional days of our Morocco adventure. From difficult decisions and changing travel plans to meaningful conversations with locals and an afternoon of bodyboarding, Day 192 reminded us that some of the biggest travel lessons come from the days that don’t go according to plan.
Day 191 - Five Hours of Waves and a Well-Earned Dessert
A simple day in Sidi Kaouki turned into one of our favourites. From unexpected travel conversations and hours of bodyboarding to ocean lessons, beachside lunches and banana chocolate crepes, Day 191 was all about slowing down and enjoying the moment.
Day 190 - Learning the Art of a Moroccan Tagine
A relaxed day in Sidi Kaouki turned into a memorable cultural experience as we learned how to cook traditional Moroccan beef tagines from scratch. Between work, Lego, schoolwork and a delicious cooking class, Day 190 was all about slowing down and soaking up local life.
Day 189 - Surf, Lego and Another Slow Day in Sidi Kaouki
A relaxed day in Sidi Kaouki brought together work, worldschooling, bodyboarding, Lego and another delicious dinner with our favourite local restaurant. Sometimes the most memorable travel days are the simple ones.
Day 188 - Building Dreams, Big Waves and Sunset Horse Riding in Morocco
From making progress on a new AI project to tackling some of the biggest waves we’ve seen in Sidi Kaouki and finishing the day with horses on the beach at sunset, Day 188 was packed with family adventures and memorable moments.
Day 187 - Sunset Rides and Moroccan Adventures in Sidi Kaouki
From relaxed café breakfasts and future travel conversations to sunset horse riding along the beaches of Sidi Kaouki, Day 187 was filled with adventure, adrenaline and beautiful Moroccan coastal scenery.
Day 186 - Horse Riding in Morocco and the Heat Finally Broke Me
What was supposed to be a relaxing morning horse ride along the beach in Morocco turned into one of the toughest days we’ve had so far. Delays, heat, confusion, exhausted horses and eventually heat exhaustion had us questioning the whole experience. But somewhere amongst the chaos were still moments that made us laugh.
Day 185 - Horse Riding Chaos and Pumping Waves in Morocco
A rooftop breakfast with travellers from around the world, a chaotic and stressful horse riding adventure through the Moroccan dunes, horses swimming in the ocean, pumping surf with Emmett, and conversations about worldschooling over dinner. Day 185 in Morocco was messy, funny, exhausting and unforgettable.
Day 184 - A Slow Day in Sidi Kaouki and Big Conversations About What Comes Next
Foggy mornings, homemade Moroccan amlou, schoolwork struggles, bodyboarding at sunset and long conversations about the future. Day 184 in Sidi Kaouki was a slower day filled with simple moments, family routines and the growing reality of long-term travel life.
Day 183 - The Beautiful Chaos of an Argan Oil Experience in Morocco
Day 183 was one of those strange travel days that somehow felt both relaxing and chaotic at the same time. Between slow moka coffees, the kids disappearing into elaborate Lego worlds, confusing tour timings and learning how argan oil is traditionally made by hand, it ended up being a day full of little moments that reminded us travel rarely goes exactly to plan in Morocco.
Day 182 - The Family Exercise That Changed How We’re Thinking About Travel
A foggy morning in Morocco led to one of the most important conversations of our trip so far. Between surf sessions, Moroccan breakfasts, and late-night family chats, we tried a simple exercise that revealed what all four of us are truly looking for from this journey and maybe from life moving forward.
Day 181 - Horses, Heat and Life on the Road
Day 181 of our family worldschooling journey in Morocco included a long-awaited horse ride, warm weather, budget realities and another reminder that life on the road rarely goes exactly to plan. From restless nights and rushed tours to shared dinners and figuring out what comes next after Morocco, this was one of those very real travel days.
Day 180 - Our First Full Day in Sidi Kaouki, Featuring Horses, Wind and Travel Reality
Our first full day in Sidi Kaouki involved leading horses through valleys and waterholes, relaxing on the beach watching kitesurfers, adjusting to a very different style of accommodation and realising that this little surf town in Morocco is far more expensive than we expected.
Day 179 - Leaving Essaouira Behind and Arriving in Sidi Kaouki
Day 179 of our family gap year brought a change of pace as we packed up in Essaouira and made the short coastal journey to Sidi Kaouki, Morocco. Between remote surveying work, rooftop website fixes, windy beach walks, Moroccan tea and a sunset dinner by the Atlantic, it was the beginning of a slower and more rugged chapter of our Moroccan adventure.
